The Leadership Studies courses are taught by the best and most innovative faculty in a modernized classroom set up for professional instruction. An innovative hybrid teaching model will be used that will include experiential instruction including practicum with professional leaders in the community. 

Also, you can earn up to six leadership certifications awarded by FranklinCovey by passing various knowledge exams. You will be able to identify your personal strengths and talents and then use those strengths and talents to help and serve others.

The Leadership studies degree works for those who want a degree plan that best fits their career choices in management. The Leadership Studies degree is offered during lunch hour or in the evenings one night per week for eight weeks.  You may apply technical credit as well as choose from list of career focused electives.

With a partnership with FranklinCovey, the leadership studies degree is made up of an essentials management (MGMT) course, five Leadership (LEAD) Courses and four professional development courses including two Communication (COMM) Courses and two (applied arts and science course (AASC) that will enhance your career goals.

In the Leadership Studies program, you will build your brand by learning individual, team and organizational leadership concepts.

SAMPLE COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

MGMT 3311 Leadership Essentials
Leadership Essentials is a comprehensive course based on Stephen R. Covey's "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People". This course explores fundamental principles of personal and professional effectiveness while developing essential leadership skills for managing teams. Students learn to transition from individual contributors to effective leaders through practical applications of character ethics, proactive behavior, and interpersonal relationship building.
LEAD 3330 Creating Thinking
This course explores the nature of unconscious bias and its impact on decision-making while developing creative thinking and problem-solving skills. Students learn to identify and mitigate bias in the workplace and utilize various creative thinking techniques. The course emphasizes practical applications across business, design, and technology fields, incorporating design thinking, prototyping, and innovation methodologies while promoting entrepreneurial spirit.
LEAD 4310 Personal Brand Reputation and Trust
This course focuses on developing personal credibility and building high-trust relationships within organizations through the application of Stephen M.R. Covey's "13 Behaviors of High Trust." Students learn to identify and mitigate trust-eroding behaviors while developing their unique personal brand. The course emphasizes practical applications of trust-building principles in professional settings, strategic personal marketing, and alignment of personal brand with career goals. Students develop comprehensive trust-building action plans and personal branding strategies while learning to navigate professional relationships in both traditional and digital environments.

You will need to complete the following 30 hours for a Leadership Studies major:

MGMT 3311 Leadership Essentials  
LEAD 3320 Financial Literacy

Bachelor of Science to Masters of Business Administration 

After completing MGMT 3311 Leadership Essentials, you will formally be accepted into the Leadership studies major.

If your GPA is 2.5 or above, you will be invited to participate in the early start five-year BS Leadership Studies/MBA Program.

If you're invited, you may be eligible to receive scholarship funds, if your GPA is 3.25 or higher and you elect the on-campus Lamar MBA.

After completing the two required prerequisite courses, (ACCT 5315 and FINC 5300) and potentially one additional MBA course, you would need to complete nine (27 credit hours) of additional graduate courses.

The remaining nine courses could be taken in one year (3 courses each fall/spring semester and three courses in the summer).
